Five employees of Green Hills Retirement Community were among those honored recently during the annual LeadingAge Ohio Stars program, which recognizes non-management staff for their service.

Here are the Stars at Green Hills and what others had to say about them:

The title of housekeeping aide for Ethan Fishbaugh of Bellefontaine, certainly does not say it all. He is often found helping out in other departments such as maintenance and has helped in the kitchen. He has a jovial spirit and a personality that is enjoyed by the residents and staff, says Administrator Stephanie DeWees.

Nancy Flora of West Liberty, was nominated because of her energy and enthusiasm not just in her daily tasks as a personal service assistant but each and every day that she is serving residents and visitors at the Green Hills Inn. She often spends any extra time she has by listening to residents, learning about them and sharing stories.

“Whenever she is in the building you can always depend on a good laugh and lots of fun,” said Karen Oder, Director of Assisted Living.

Inn resident Wanda Patton explained, “Even though Nancy is fairly new, she’s very efficient! Nancy is friendly, kind, helpful and does her job well. She’s happy and compassionate to be around and very loving.”

“Nancy, the bubbly girl who gives help right now,” said Marcene Traucht, another resident of the Inn.

Tara Mendieta of Lakeview is a dedicated employee who provides and advocates quality resident care. She knows her residents well and has their best interest at heart. “She is definitely an asset to our facility,” said Bonnie Allen, RN, Director of Nursing.

Nominated by two co-workers, Lauren Flora and Danyiel Miracle, they explained that Ms. Mendieta, an LPN, is always willing to lend a hand in need and willing to go above and beyond what is expected. She always has a cheerful attitude and is always wearing a smile, they explained.

Residents always come first for Nikki Legge of West Liberty (from Life Enrichment). She always goes above and beyond what is expected of her when it comes to caring for the residents. The residents love her positive attitude and contagious energy, said a co-worker.

To say that Susan Robson of West Mansfield (in dining services) exceeds the expectations of employees at Green Hills Retirement Community would be an understatement., explained Kelli Fritz, Director of Dining Services.

She continued that Ms. Robson will go out of her way to ensure that every resident is well fed and well loved. She performs any position within the department and has taken on additional responsibilities of supervising.

“Susan never lets the ‘not me’ syndrome get in the way of excellent service. Regardless of whose job it is, she takes each challenge as her own responsibility and follows it through until it’s resolved,” said Mrs. Fritz.

This annual regional event recognizes frontline staff nominated by residents, clients or family members or direct supervisors for fulfilling daily not-for-profit mission and vision to serving older adults. LeadingAge Ohio is association for non-for-profit facilities serving older Ohioans.

In addition to being publicly recognized during this event, the employees received a keepsake photo and a lapel pin to highlight the recognition of their outstanding service.
