Located in a quiet rural setting, Green Hills is situated on 60 acres of rolling hills overlooking the Mad River Valley.

In the late 1960’s, local women at a sewing circle discussed ways to raise money “because we need a good care center in West Liberty”. Three years later, a Labor Day bake sale generated $2,232.00 which was placed in a savings account as the first concrete step toward realizing this dream. By the end of 1972, a Board of Trustees had been formed and incorporated in to the West Liberty Care Center, also known as Green Hills Center. Two other non profit corporations were later formed to build and operate Independent Living apartments and homes.

About Green Hills

THE HISTORY OF GREEN HILLS….

Over the years the vision of the founding churches took physical form in a number of building projects. In 1975, West Liberty Homes opened with 36 apartments.  Two years later, a 60-bed nursing center was opened. The nursing center was made possible by a successful community fund drive which raised more than $200,000.00 as well as a grant from the Columbus Foundation, Mary Eleanor Morris Fund, and a loan from Farmers Home Administration.

Additional growth in subsequent years included an expansion of the Nursing Center to 105 beds in 1981. This year also brought a new Child Care Center. A second major fund drive in 1986 raised $186,000.00 from community support as well as a grant from the Columbus Foundation and the Mary Eleanor Morris Fund. Proceeds were used for the construction of the DayBreak wing, providing space for adult day care services. A chapel, counseling and therapy offices and a country store were also added during this construction period.

Throughout the years additional Independent Living apartments and Garden Homes were added and in 1988 the Assisted Living building was opened.

In 1999 the construction of an Independent Living community known as the Woodside Homes was developed. The homes range from 1167-1409 square feet and are offered as duplexes and free standing homes. Some sites remain open for building and additional construction is planned for the middle of 2009.

Through continued visionary leadership in 2002 Green Hills began its largest building project coined ‘Caring for the Future’. The project included a Dementia Care area which offers 16 private rooms. A Community Center complete with library, bakery, chapel, beauty salon, sunroom and 250 seat multi purpose and meeting room was included in this expansion. An Aquatics and Fitness Center was added during this phase along with Administrative offices and Training room. This renovation also included expansions of the Child Center and extensive renovations to the Health Care facility that included the addition of courtyards, lounges, rehabilitation area, dining and activity spaces.

In 2007 Green Hills acquired 20 acres of adjacent ground to the north and south of the campus. These properties offer beautiful mature trees and a gentle rolling landscape that enhances the overall setting.
